Computer-based exams
There are two types of CPE exam - paper-based and computer-based. Which one you decide to take is down to your personal preferences. It is not possible to say one is better than the other. Each have their pros and cons.
Paper-based Exam
The exam consists of 4 parts:-
Paper 1 Reading & Use of English (accounts for 40% of the marks) You can make hand written notes, underline parts and generally write on the paper. Paper 2 Writing Parts 1 & 2 (accounts for 20% of the marks) You will need to hand write 2 texts. You can make notes on the exam paper. Paper 3 Listening (accounts for 20% of the marks) As the paper-based exam is held in a hall the audio part is over loud speakers. Paper 4 Speaking (accounts for 20% of the marks) The speaking test will be on a different day. CPE - Cambridge English Proficiency

Computer-based Exam
The exam consists of 4 parts:-
Paper 1 Reading & Use of English (accounts for 40% of the marks) The texts are on a screen with the questions to the right. You can scroll through both seperately. There is a highlight function and a note function. Paper 2 Writing Parts 1 & 2 (accounts for 20% of the marks) You will need to type 2 texts. You can ask for paper to make notes on but you must leave it behind after the test. Paper 3 Listening (accounts for 20% of the marks) The listening test is over individual headphones. Paper 4 Speaking (accounts for 20% of the marks) The speaking test may be on the same day. |
